The Book

April was just like any other 13 year old, at least she was until she found the book but we’ll get into that later. It all started on an ordinary Tuesday, in an ordinary house, on an ordinary street in Oklahoma, April, a rather average girl, was sitting on her bed on the phone with her best friend Maddie.
“Hey did you finish the Science Homework?” Maddie asked.
“Ugh, not yet.”
“You really should finish it soon.”
“I know but it’s just so confusing, like what is the difference between protons and neutrons. Don’t even get me started on the nucleus.”
“Well, you can check pages 272-275, they explain all you need to know.”
“Thanks, Mads, you're a lifesaver.”
I hang up the phone and walk toward my bookshelf. I trace my fingers over the books until I find my science textbook. I pull it off the shelf and another book falls down with it. It makes a thunderous boom as it hits the floor. I bend down, pick it up, and flip it over to reveal the faded label on the dusty book. “The mysterious adventures of Pip, it reads. “Weird.” I think I don’t remember this book. I sit down on the floor and flip open the cover and a glowing light emerges from the pages. Before I can think twice, the world starts spinning and then I find myself in a clearing surrounded by grass as far as the eye can see.
“Hello, April.” I hear far off in the distance, I spin around but no one is there.
